Can I visit your studio?
Yes! Visitors are welcome when the potters are in. Appointments are best as I do not currently have set studio hours. Book an appointment here.
What is the production process for each pot?
Each piece is hand-thrown or hand-built with dark brown stoneware clay. For colorful pieces, a layer of white slip is applied allowing for contrast. Decals are used for decoration via iron image transfers and colorful dead-stock commercial decals. Pieces are fired up to four times and are mid-range Cone 6 stoneware.
Is your pottery microwave safe?
Mostly yes! Unless there is a reflective metallic decoration (GOLD). Temperature shock from the refrigerator to the microwave is also discouraged.
Is your pottery dishwasher safe?
Yep! Although, if there are metallic gold elements we recommend hand washing as they may fade over time.
Is your pottery oven safe?
Sure is! Pottery is made in ovens! They must preheat WITH the oven to avoid temperature shock and cracking as a result.
Is your pottery food safe?
You know it! Glaze colorants contain no lead or cadmium. Decals are limited to exteriors and edges of wares made for food and beverage use as per the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
How durable is your pottery?
Very durable! Stoneware is a strong, hard, nonporous clay fired above 2,000°F.
Do you repair pottery? I have cracked or broken ceramics that are family heirlooms.
I do not fix broken pottery. Two-part epoxy is the best adhesive for clay, only to be used when not in contact with food and drink.
Do you give pottery lessons?
No. Locally I recommend Ceramica, Pullen Arts Center, The Crafts Center at NC State, Sertoma Arts Center and Cary Arts Center for classes.
Ordering & Shipping
How do I place a custom order?
You can email me at liz@lizkellypottery.com with any photos as attachments. We’ll talk details there!
How quickly will my order ship?
It depends on if we have it in stock or if I am making it from scratch. In stock items ship in 2-3 days and made-to-order in 2-4 weeks. If you have a specific deadline — such as a birthday, anniversary, or holiday — let me know when placing the order and I’ll make sure you have it in time.
How are pieces packed for shipping?
I proudly use all paper & recycled packing materials.
What happens if something breaks during shipping?
Email me immediately with a photo of the item with its packing materials. I will take care of insurance claims and have a new piece on its way ASAP. Broken items cannot be replaced without photo proof or contact within a few days of receiving the package.
Do you ship internationally?
Not at this time.
Can I ship a gift directly to someone else?
Of course! Just let me know when placing the order. I’ll even include a brief handwritten note on your behalf!
I saw something on your instagram or in a restaurant that’s not listed on your site, can I order those pieces?
Email me for special requests and photo references are always helpful.
Can I buy a gift card?
You bet! I offer gift certificates by mail or at the studio. They can be redeemed for online purchases by typing in the gift card # in the “note to seller” section, then I’ll credit/refund the purchase.
Do you have sales, discounts, or sell seconds?
I have a seconds sale once a year during our holiday studio sale. Occasionally I will run promotional sales via Instagram. I make everything individually by hand so purchases of multiple items generally will not qualify for a discount.

Can my business sell your work?
I’m at capacity with wholesale stockists, but email me and I’ll save your information in case I have an opening.
Can we collaborate?
I love to collaborate and brand collaborations are encouraged! Past work includes businesses such as Sombra Mezcal, NC Theatre, Anisette, Benchwarmers Bagels, Stanbury, Capital Club 16, Escazú Chocolates, Nice Price Books & Records and Longleaf Hotel.
What is the turnaround time for hospitality industry orders?
3-4 weeks depending on quantity and specialization.
Can I see samples?
Prototypes can be made with enough time allowed.
Is there a way to include our logo?
We have two ways to do that. Customizable iron decals and logo stamps are both options.
What is the minimum order for commercial production?
In general, $300.
Can you make custom shapes?
Yes! Designing custom forms is an option, as long as it’s in the realm of my work.
Registry
Is it possible to set up a wedding registry for a full set?
Absolutely! Wedding registries are available. Items can be from my made-to-order page, by gift certificates or custom dish designs. A registry page can be linked for easy shopping. Call or email to set one up.
